Joe Sapienza -Biography Continued

- and if that weren’t enough, at the same time, he built and owned a convenience store that served a huge apartment complex. But the West coast was calling to Joe. In 1985, he finally heeded its siren call and moved to the South Bay area of Los Angeles, where his love of cars and motor sports had led him into the import car business. Unsurprisingly, Joe had loved computers from the very beginning; tinkering, changing and learning. And, of course, Joe applied his computer savvy to cars - he was able to reprogram the onboard computers so that he could make cars faster and faster. He was so successful that his business expanded globally and became the first import car company ever to be featured in Hot Rod Magazine and Hot Rod TV - and then in automotive magazines around the world. His interest in motorsport apparel caused him to launch a hugely successful company that had an exclusive contract with Honda.

As an early adopter of computer and internet technology,

Joe continually enhanced his graphic design training by seeking out and mastering all the major design software programs. So, while still in the car business, he came across some brilliant young programmers from the UK and enlisted them in order to launch a Flash integrated internet development company to pioneer an idea he had for user-friendly shopping cart technology that was way ahead of the curve. As Joe built and launched internet components for all of his various enterprises, he had become dissatisfied with the way business was done on the internet - he felt that doing business on the internet should be the same as doing business in a store - all the expensive website stores, affiliate and pay-per-click marketing drove him crazy; they didn’t give a good return on investment and he felt that non-expert consumers were being ripped off. This drove him to develop an ecommerce website business that was more user-friendly; utilizing social media outlets, blogging, search engine optimization, creative marketing and other cost-efficient methods to drive traffic to small business clients. And thus, the idea for WebGem Network was born.
